Out in the sticks

When we found this lot, we weren't really looking for something to build on. We figured it would be a possibility in the future but it wasn't the plan right away. There really wasn't a plan. We had been looking for bigger properties and when we saw a lot in West Haven that was over an acre and under $100K we decided to take a look.

It was kind of a mess. Half of it was just swamp, covered in mud, water, weeds and reeds. But it was also so beautiful. There were already some trees along the back for privacy and horses pasturing next door. The neighborhood is full of large lots so it doesn't feel like a lot of the cramped developments we've lived in and seen. Also, it was close to the freeway, but still felt like country. Basically, it had everything we were looking for except a view.

Now that we've lived here for a while, I never want to leave. I mean, I said the whole time we were building that this would be my last move, but it's got to be true, because we could never replace this lot. These pictures don't really show it off, they just show some good things about living here.

A late ski lesson

I finally signed Brielle and Mason up for their first ski lesson. It is so late in the season that there isn't really any snow left. In fact, this was the last week that Nordic will even be open. But I squeezed them in just in time!

They both did a lot better than I was expecting, but I guess I don't really know what I was expecting. Brielle loved it until Mason got to go on the big hill and she didn't. Mason took right to it and had a blast. I hope we can get up there more often next season.
