A baby girl is six months old

I don't know about you... but for me, the first few months with a new baby feel a bit like happily swimming through a cloudy pool full of crocodiles. As much as I try to avoid it, and as much I just love my newborn babies, I find myself counting the days until they turn six months old. It's like the golden age of babies.

Brielle is the golden baby of the golden baby age. She is smiley and funny and happy and even though she still spits up about fourty-two times a day, I don't know what I ever did without her around.

This is very sad, but I wasn't ever sure I really wanted a girl. I always assumed for some reason that I would be the mother of only boys. Then I thought, maybe after I've had a few boys, a girl would sneek her way in there. I am so glad Bri snuck her way in soon because I love having a girl. And Mason better hope that she is into the girly stuff, because I am dragging someone with me to the pedicures and musicals.

Just to play

Last night I was hanging out with my kiddos - reading, wrestling, handing out way too many kisses. And it dawned on me. All I really have to do all day is play. I mean, I used to do all this stuff (clean, change diapers, cart babies around) every chance I got when I was a kid. With my siblings, with the neighbor kids, with countless dolls...

Now I have my own two babies and they are real and sweet and way more fun, and all I have to do is just play with them. Play the alphabet game and head and shoulders. And play pretend. So I'm going to, by golly. We started things off today with an outing to the zoo, lunch at the Star of India (oh gosh it is so good), frozen custard from Nielsen's in Bountiful. Now its naps and then who knows what else!

Probably we'll pretend that we're blue collar workers who lay sprinkler lines for a living because shoveling the dirt at the new house is Mason's new favorite pastime, plus we have to do that anyway. Let the games begin!

Oh and I have only this to say about the zoo: Depressing. I really wouldn't mind inviting those giraffes to chill at my pad, we've got more space. And that's not saying a lot.

Celebrate

I wasn't going to do a birthday post because, basically, this blog is pictures of my cute kids all day, all the time. But then I realized...that's kind of the point, right?

Friday we went to Chuck E. Cheese's. May I just say that I beat Emily at this game 64-33.

Brielle just wanted to pop in and remind everyone that she has blue eyes.

This day in history

1958 - Yakety Yak, by The Coasters, became the number one song in the U.S.A., according to Billboard magazine

1960 - The first Etch-A-Sketch went on sale.

1984 - Steve Carlton of the Philadelphia Phillies earned his 100th strikeout of the season and led the Phils to a 4-3 win over the Cincinnati Reds.

2009 - Mason was born.

I could really wax poetic about all my little guy's amazing talents and qualities. He is seriously cool. But I will just say, the day he was born he changed my life for the better in the most profound ways.

Today he is going to eat a cake that looks like a train and open presents and get loved on by lots of people who care about him. It seems so insignificant a way to celebrate the life of one of the most important people in my life. I sure love my Mase Face.
